Overnight Success...Is It Real?!
Overnight success does not exist. At the very least, it is statistically so rare that people would have a better chance at “succeeding” by playing the lottery.
People claim that others have achieved overnight success, but what they don’t see before that success is the years upon years of harwork & dedication into a craft or business that lead to that “OVERNIGHT SUCCESS”
For me personally I’ve been grinding away for the last 5 years or so working very hard on building my business and filmmaking career. Every year my revenue increases, my name becomes more recognized, so yea my success starts to turn over at a faster rate than it did when I first began.
Ultimately, it’s just untrue. Yes people will have different rates and timeframes in which they reach ‘success’ but thats the fact of the matter. Everyone is different and everyone has a different path to success, so don’t be scourged when your path and journey might not look like or develop as quickly as someone else’s.
Life is about making choices. When you choose one option, you are also saying no to many others. You can have what you want, but you cannot want it all and have it all.
I began making videos out of my college apartment for little to nothing monetarily. I did it because I loved it. Now I run several thriving filmmaking related business and make a yearly income I would have never dreamed I would make back in college.
Just put your head down work hard and you will see that success start to accumulate over time but definitely not overnight! - Jakob Owens

I just hit 100 Million views on my UNSPLASH account!!! I stumbled on unsplash about a year ago and created an account as a place to simply share some of my photography. Unsplash was perfect, because it was essentially a free portfolio page to share my work with a community all over the world, but at the same time allow people to download my photos to use however they wanted. Pretty quickly I began to see growth in not only the numbers of my unsplash account but my other social media channels as well, not to mention it was pretty cool to see companies/people around the web using my pictures whether it be on IG, a Facebook promotion, or their website etc. Anyways just over a year later I've amassed a crazy amount of views as well becoming the 2nd most followed user on the platform (still don't know how that happened haha)! How To Make VIDEO PRODUCTION Your FULL TIME Job!
In college I pursued video production/filmmaking probably like most of you reading this right now. I didn't start out on top or have a smooth path into LA and the filmmaking world. Far removed from LA and anyone in the industry, I started off shooting $200 local music videos in AZ as I attended school at Arizona State University. I didn't have a plan, I didn't have a mentor, I didn't have a path layed out in front of me that I could just easily follow. Very little information, if any at all was provided to me on how to figure out how I could make video production a full-time job and reality for my future. I had a passion for making videos and I wanted to turn that into making a living for myself, but I didn't have anyone there to help or guide me, nobody to answer questions I may have had, I just went out and did it. These are some of the reasons why I've always been so helpful to young filmmakers, from the manuals I've created, the tutorials, the responses to all the questions on my social media channels etc. So many kids and even adults have so many questions about this field and how they can do the same, and thats why I've always told myself I wanted to be that guidance or help that I never was able to have. I want to help in any way that I can for those that are hungry and passionate about making video production/filmmaking a full-time living. That being said I just dropped a new video talking about 5 tips or pieces of advice that I did coming up and still do to this day that can help jumpstart your success.
